Parker

Back in 1985, when my family moved to Connecticut from Kentucky, I got heavily into sports cards. Some football (US), a dash of hockey… but my focus was baseball! I loved the game and still do.

When my dad heard that I wanted to get into sports card collecting, he was apparently excited. My parents are both from Pittsburgh and grew up as fans of the Pirates.

So my dad, when he heard I wanted to get into sports cards, went out and purchased what would be my first two sports cards, both Pittsburgh Pirates greats… a 1981 Fleer Willie Stargell and a 1980 Topps Dave Parker…

Dave Parker, sadly, passed aaay today at the age of 1974. While I may never have wound up the Bucks fan my dad may have hoped for (I was living in Connecticut and chose the Yankees), I still have those two cards and cherish them with every fiber of my being.

R.I.P. Mr. Parker.
